Discover northern Portugal through two complementary wine identities on a private full-day journey from Porto. This experience begins in Lamego, continues through the quieter vineyard landscapes of Távora-Varosa and unfolds into the river-shaped scenery of the Douro Valley, creating a day defined by heritage, changing landscapes and the contrast between traditional-method sparkling wines and the broader wine culture of the Douro.
The morning opens in Lamego, where the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies offers a strong cultural and visual beginning to the day. More than a religious landmark, it gives the route a clear sense of place through its baroque character, elevated setting and connection to the historic hinterland of the Douro. When the rhythm of the morning allows, a brief stop at Lamego Cathedral may also be included, adding another architectural layer to the experience.
From Lamego, the route moves into Távora-Varosa, one of Portugal’s most distinctive sparkling wine regions. Before the tasting, the journey pauses in Ucanha, where a short walk across the fortified bridge and past the medieval tower adds atmosphere and historical depth in a place that still feels quietly local.
The first wine moment of the day may then be selected separately during booking. This experience can focus on traditional-method sparkling wines, with a guided cellar visit and tasting designed to highlight freshness, precision and elegance. Depending on the selected option, the tasting may include 4 sparkling wines, offering a structured introduction to one of Portugal’s most refined wine styles.
From here, the day descends toward the Douro along the celebrated N222, where brief scenic pauses may be added when the landscape opens naturally. A stop near the Bagaúste Dam and riverfront adds another perspective before lunch, showing the Douro not only as a landscape of beauty, but also as a managed waterway shaped by navigation, engineering and daily life.
Lunch remains flexible so the day can adapt naturally to the kind of experience you want. This may mean a meal at a traditional local restaurant in Peso da Régua, with a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere close to the river, or a winery-style lunch setting for those who prefer a more immersive and private midday experience. Meals are not included in the base tour.
In the afternoon, the experience can continue with a second optional element, again selected separately during booking. This may be a Port wine tasting, a Douro DOC wine tasting, or a 1-hour Douro river cruise, depending on the rhythm and balance you want for the day. A Port-focused tasting brings richness, depth and age-shaped character, while a Douro DOC tasting reveals another side of the valley through structure, freshness and vineyard expression. The river cruise, by contrast, offers a calmer and more panoramic reading of the Douro from the water.
By the time you return to Porto in the early evening, the impression is of having travelled through two distinct but complementary wine landscapes in a single day: the precision and elegance of Távora-Varosa sparkling wines and the scale, atmosphere and wine culture of the Douro Valley. Combined with the cultural opening in Lamego and the medieval pause in Ucanha, this creates a private experience that feels varied, polished and memorable.
Transparency note: Wineries tasting experiences, boat rides and meals are not included. These elements are selected separately in the second step of the booking process, so you can choose exactly what you want to include. This ensures clear pricing, with no hidden costs, no unnecessary mark-ups, and no commissions added by us or our partners.
